HomeSchool

At West Yas Academy, we actively encourage our students to be engaged in ‘out of school learning’ and we currently operate a 'Home Connect' system. Aligned to the units of inquiry, grade level teachers send home lists of interactive games, activities and websites for each subject area and students are encouraged to consolidate, practice and test themselves on these self-directed sites to support their own learning at home. Home Connect recommendations do not constitute any formal grades or percentages for reporting purposes. We recognise the value of spelling and learning the meaning of new vocabulary. As such, accompanying the grade level parent newsletters issued every Thursday are the differentiated spelling words for our students to learn. Homework to support the Ministry of Education requirements is also set by the teachers of Arabic, Islamic and Social Studies as required.

We assist families in supporting their children’s learning at home in a variety of ways. Family workshops and open mornings enable parents to find out how we teach aspects of the curriculum, and ways in which they can support. Regular homework reinforces what the students have learned during the week, and informs families about curriculum coverage.
