Hi.
My name is Lidia and I’m in the grade 6 Dalma class.  I am 11 years old.  I am quite girly and am from the U.K.  I love unicorns and I hate mustard.

In English class, we are reading a book called Hoot by Carl Hiaasen.  Hoot is a book about some endangered owls who are going to lose their habitat to a pancake house restaurant.  Before we started reading, we read information on another endangered species, sea turtles.  Sea turtles are endangered because they get caught in fish nets and hooks, their coral reefs and beaches are being destroyed, and people are catching them and doing illegal trading.  Another reason sea turtle numbers are dropping is because of climate change.  Climate change is causing sand temperatures to stay warm, which affects the gender of baby turtles.

I don’t like that sea turtles are endangered.  They are amazing creatures.  The WWF (World Wildlife Federation) is helping sea turtles by restricting human access to certain beach areas, and by educating people on the harm of trading turtles.  We can all do our part to help save the turtles!  We can help by cleaning beaches, saving electricity to decrease climate change (carpool, ride bikes), and being respectful of turtles’ habitats.
